Canaries is the smallest of all of the 10 districts in Saint Lucia. Its main city takes the name of the district (Canaries). The small finishing town climbs up a steep coast line, which provides picturesque views reminiscent of Cinque Terre, Italy.
History:
The name Canaries is derived from the creole word “Kanawe” which was the word used for cooking pots, something the town produced with its clay land. They can still be found in markets across the island to this day. The District was home to a sugar plantation, which was the primary reason for the town being established.
