Saint Lucia, has become a popular destination for expats and digital nomads seeking a relaxed lifestyle. As someone who has made the transition to Saint Lucia myself, I’ve learned a thing or two about what makes this place special. But making the move can be daunting at first while you get acclimated to your surroundings. Below are a few tips to help make the transition smooth.
Tip #1: Research, Research, Research
Before you start planning your move to Saint Lucia, take the time to research the island’s culture, customs, and way of life. Understand the local laws, regulations, and requirements related to property ownership, residency, and employment. This will help you prepare for any challenges that may arise during your transition. A good example of this are inheritance laws. In the US, by default, if a person with a spouse and child passes away, inheritance goes to the spouse as right of survivorship. In Saint Lucia, inheritance is split and majority goes to the children, not the spouse. Wills can adjust this, but it is good to understand these small differences for your own protection.

Saint Lucia has a unique cost of living, which can be affected by factors like housing costs, food prices, and transportation expenses. A few examples of this would be that childcare is a fraction of the cost of US child care, but a car is often roughly double the cost of the same car in the US.

Their holiday schedule has some differences to other countries, so you will need to plan accordingly for store/school closings, and also understand how you can participate in some of their country specific festivities!
